Pax Glossary

The pacifying atmospheric agent in *Serenity* that made most of Miranda so calm they stopped living and turned a minority into Reavers; the Dictionary’s warning symbol for benevolent control at scale.

In Serenity, Pax is the atmospheric agent the Alliance releases on Miranda to pacify the population. The intent is order, calm, and social improvement. The result is catastrophe. Most people become so peaceful that they stop acting, working, eating, and living. A minority become Reavers.

For the Dictionary, Pax is the warning symbol for benevolent control at scale: a greatest-good intervention that treats human friction as a problem to be engineered away and discovers, too late, that friction was part of life.

Pax is not an argument against governance. It is an argument against imagining that governance can safely remove all turbulence from human systems.

Not zero mosh pit. Not all mosh pit. Enough movement to be alive; enough structure not to be crushed.
