GLM Glossary
GLM
GLM is the General Language Model family developed from a Tsinghua University pretraining line and commercialized by Zhipu AI / Z.ai.
The original GLM research combined autoregressive generation with blank-infilling objectives: the model learned both to continue text and to reconstruct missing spans. Later ChatGLM and GLM generations expanded into conversational, coding, multimodal, and agentic systems.
GLM-5.2 became strategically important in mid-2026 because it joined open-weight distribution with strong results on several cybersecurity evaluations. NIST’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation reported aggregate cyber capability similar to Claude Opus 4.6 on its test suite, while also finding GLM-5.2 significantly below the strongest closed U.S. models it assessed. That is a Benchmark Parity lesson: a narrowing gap in one consequential domain, not evidence that every capability had equalised.
