The window of exposure is the period during which a system is vulnerable to a known or exploitable flaw before effective protection reaches it.
The window may begin before public disclosure if attackers discover the vulnerability privately. It may continue after a patch is released if affected systems remain unpatched. Its length therefore depends on discovery, disclosure, exploit development, patch production, distribution, testing, and adoption.
AI can compress several of those stages at once. That is not automatically reassuring. If exploit generation accelerates more than patch deployment, the defender’s practical window may shrink even while defensive tools improve.
