Martin Keen is a presenter and explainer for IBM Technology, where he makes short videos about artificial intelligence, software development, data, and enterprise technology. His useful habit is to put the supposedly unprecedented thing back into its historical family. AI agents may be new; the organisational problems they expose often are not.

Keen enters this Dictionary through his August 2026 account of Rapid Application Development. He connects today’s AI-generated prototypes to James Martin’s older RAD method, then restores the part that enthusiastic “vibe coding” tends to misplace: discoveries made through the prototype must become specifications, acceptance criteria, security requirements, and tests before the system goes into production.

For managers and teachers, that is the important translation. Keen is not primarily asking whether an AI can produce code. Plainly it can. He is asking what humans must specify and verify once producing code is no longer the scarce part of the work.
