Brining
Brining is a playful OpenClaw progress label meaning, roughly, “the agent is working.”
It appears as a large status heading while the system is carrying out actual operations listed beneath it—running a shell command, searching files, editing a document, or using another tool. Brining does not name any one of those operations. It is interface whimsy, not computer jargon.
The label belongs to OpenClaw’s nautical and crustacean vocabulary, alongside such progress words as Shelling, Scuttling, Clawing, Reefing, Krilling, and Barnacling. The system may choose among them while work is underway.
This distinction helps when reading an activity display. If “Brining” appears above a line saying that Bash is searching files, the precise account is: OpenClaw is showing a playful working label; Bash is performing the command.
In ordinary English, brining means soaking food in salted water. OpenClaw has borrowed the word for atmosphere, not for its culinary procedure.
