The Biggest Brains Live in the Cloud Glossary
The Biggest Brains Live in the Cloud is the current frontier-dependence fact.
It is not a slogan of surrender. It is a map note. The largest and most capable AI systems remain cloud-served because they require scale, batching, memory, routing, data-center networking, and infrastructure that local systems do not yet match. A local workstation can be sovereign and useful. It cannot, in 2026, simply become Anthropic’s best model or OpenAI’s best model by wanting to.
This is why Workflow-layer Sovereignty matters. Local systems can own memory, tools, files, routine work, privacy-sensitive work, and much of the operator’s day-to-day process. But the hardest reasoning and synthesis may still require frontier providers.
The goal is not to deny that the biggest brains live in the cloud. The goal is to call them only when their size is actually needed.
